Anino ng Nakaraan — Filipino for Shadow of the Past — is a commanding dark sculpture that confronts memory, identity, and the weight of what we carry within us.

Two large hands rise from a tangle of gnarled roots, cradling a monolithic form upward — as if offering it, or perhaps restraining it. The central column is a study in duality: its lower half rough and elemental, like ancient bark or eroded stone, while a smooth feminine torso emerges from within — polished, vulnerable, unmistakably human. Above, the figure dissolves into an explosion of dense floral and foliate relief, intricate blossoms crowding the crown like a memory that refuses to fade.

Rendered entirely in deep matte black, the sculpture strips away color to demand attention to form alone — to the tension between the organic and the human, the buried and the blooming, the past and the self it has shaped.
