Jonathan Capuno Pili

Artist, engineer, inventor, entrepreneur, athlete and mentor

Jonathan Pili brings together visual art, engineering, music, poetry and technology in a multidisciplinary practice. Working across painting, sculpture and design, he draws on both creative exploration and technical problem-solving. His work reflects an interest in philosophical ideas, the possibilities of materials and the connections between art and everyday life.

Artistic practice

Pili’s paintings explore ideas through visual form and philosophical reflection. In sculpture, he works with raw materials and structural forms to bring together expressive and technical approaches. His creative interests also extend to music and poetry, where writing and composition offer another outlet for the introspective qualities of his work.

Alongside his artistic practice, Pili has worked in engineering, information technology and invention, including the design and construction of custom machinery. These disciplines inform the way he approaches materials, structure and experimentation.

Collaboration and cultural involvement

Pili has taken part in art exhibitions, performances, forums and cultural initiatives in the Philippines. His work has brought him into contact with artists, community workers, public figures and leaders across different fields. The original profile notes collaborations with former Philippine president Rodrigo Roa Duterte on civic and development projects and with Filipino actor Cesar Montano.

Mentorship and Paninap

Mentorship is an important part of Pili’s contribution to the arts. In 2016, he mentored artist Romel Abapo Obellano, and the two presented Earth and Fire, a two-person exhibition at Mix-Up Gallery in the Angeles City Library. The exhibition marked Obellano’s debut in the local art scene.

Obellano went on to found the Paninap Arts Movement of the Philippines and establish Paninap Art Gallery. Pili’s mentorship is part of that early story, connecting his individual practice with the development of a wider artistic community.
